Overworked
Hostess
When I have people over I cook all day, trying
new recipes, setting the table, etc. By the time
I serve dinner, I'm exhausted. I really hate to
finish eating and jump up and start doing the
dishes; I wait until the next day. All my women
friends are always anxious to clear the table
and do the dishes. I eventually win, but when
I go to their houses I feel I must jump up and
start working as soon as the dessert is done,
and it bugs me. Are there any solutions?
Theres nothing like being able to enjoy
the fruits of your labor. It sounds like your
friends agree and want to help you out by cleaning.
At the next dinner, when youre warm with
wine and talk of trips to the South Pacific, stay
seated and continue conversing. If your friends
pop up and start tidying, entreat them to leave
everything as is and just enjoy each others
company. Tell them that it is their turn to be
pampered. By not mentioning yourself, perhaps
they will better appreciate your generous hosting.
Being a gracious guest is as important as being
a gracious host.
