| The
Terrible Genna Brothers
The
Genna Brothers lived on Chicago's South side in Little Italy
on Taylor Street. They first specialized in extortion, but
turned to bootlegging when prohibition began.
Sam Genna was the gang's business manager. Jim and Pete
specialized in bootlegging and Angelo and Mike handled enforcement
and assassinations.
In May of 1925, newlywed Angelo Genna was shot to death
in his car by Dion O'Banion's men.
In June, Mike Genna was shot and killed by police.
Finally, on July 8, Tony "the Gentleman" was shot
five times in the back. He died in the hospital.
Jim,
Sam and Pete fled Chicago. Eventually, they all returned,
but they gave up the gangster business. Instead, they began
importing olive oil.
