Chicago Public Housing Design:
Past, Present and Future

Raymond Hilliard Center, near Chinatown.
Located at Cermak and State, this unique CHA project was designed by Bertand Goldman, the architect of Marina City, a downtown private housing development. Completed in 1966, Hilliard Center consists of two 22-story arc-shaped buildings and two 16-story circular buildings (like the one shown here). Although they stand out for their appearance, the buildings' circular shapes magnify sound and make the development very loud.
